The Rotary Club Scholarships have been awarded since 1964. To date, the local club has awarded over $273,000.

The guest speaker was Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik.

The state agency is committed to empowering communities to succeed by investing in the people, places, and businesses of Ohio.

Prior to her appointment by Governor DeWine in 2019, Mihalik served as the mayor of Findlay.

Under Mihalik’s leadership, the Department of Development is bringing public- and private-sector partners together to accomplish Governor DeWine’s priorities to build a thriving economy, invest in small businesses, prepare communities for the future, construct robust broadband infrastructure, and expand the skills of the workforce in Ohio.

Mihalik encouraged each scholar to “take their shot” in their career.

The former University of Findlay basketball standout shared her personal challenges and achievements.

Mihalik was 28 years old when she was elected mayor of Findlay.

Lydia said she had to overcome some self-doubt going into that initial election.

Mihalik thought she would become a lawyer and then a lobbyist, but an internship with the City of Findlay sparked her love for local government.

She told the honorees that their career options and interests could also change over the next few years.

Bellefontaine Mayor and Rotarian Ben Stahler emceed the awards ceremony.
